FTP (File
Transfer Protocol)
File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to
transfer files from one host or to another host
over a TCP-based network.
FTP is built on a client-server architecture
and uses separate control and data connections between the client and the
server.
Your Web browser
can also make FTP requests to download programs you select from a Web page.
Using FTP, you can also update (delete, rename, move, and copy) files at a
server.
FTP uses port number 21.

ISP(internet service provider)

and hosting, dial-

ISP is a company that supplies Internet connectivity to home and business
customers.
àA web
hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows
individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World

WEBHOSTING
àTo
make your Web site visible to the world, it has to be hosted on a Web server
àWeb hosts are companies that provide
space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing
Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.
àWeb hosts can also provide data center
space and connectivity to the Internet for other servers located in their data
center, called collocation, also known as Housing in Latin America or France.
Virtual host
à Virtual hosting is
a method for hosting multiple
domain names (with separate handling of each name) on a
single server .
à This allows one server to share its
resources, such as memory and processor cycles, without requiring all services
provided to use the same host name.
One widely used application is shared web hosting.
TYPES
1.
namebased
Name-based virtual hosts use
multiple host names for the same IP address.
2. ip based
When IP-based
virtual hosting is used, each site (either a DNS host name or a group of DNS
host names that act the same) points to a unique IP address
3. Port based
The default port
number for HTTP is 80. However, most webservers can be configured to operate on
almost any port number, provided the port number is not in use by any other
program on the server.
For example, a server may host
the website www.example.com
MULTI HOMING
Multihoming refers to a computer or device connected to more than
one computer network.
Multihoming is
intended to increase the reliability of network applications but it does not
necessarily improve their performance.
